Teenage life is difficult, especially for girls. The stresses that females go through are countless: school, sports, friends, family, boys, etc. Most of the standard that we feel we have to live up to are portrayed through Hollywood and other modes of celebrity entertainment. We live in a world where girls are constantly told that they are not skinny enough, pretty enough, or popular enough. But, I have some encouragement.
First, 1 Corinthians 10:13 says “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape, so that you are able to bear it.” Basically, with all of the sinful examples that the media is throwing at us daily through music, television, and movies, God tells us that He won’t give us something we cannot endure. He knew that the devil was going to be doing anything and everything he could to get you to follow him so through the love of Christ, God made a way out. God has an intense love for His children and even though He warned that the Christian life would not be an easy one, He knows the limits of the flesh and spiritual body.
Secondly, even when you may feel otherwise, you are truly beautiful. I know how difficult it can be to feel compared to others. Genesis 1:27 says, “so God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them Male and Female.” By doubting our own beauty we are in turn insulting the beauty of God, and denying the perfection of His creation. God called us to a higher standard when He asked us to follow Him, we were deemed as perfect through His blood and by believing anything else would be to reject his sacrifice.
When we go through the trials and tribulations of life we should turn to God and get our strength from Him. “The LORD is the One who will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” God has a perfect plan for your life and God is our source of hope and strength. James is telling us that if we draw near to God, God will draw near to us (James 4:8). In times that we need God most, He will be close and comfort us. David proclaims in Psalm 73 that the closeness of God is good, reestablishing that when God is closest to us we are safe and comforted and are given hope and strength.
As life continues and you get older, I pray that through trials, doubts, and low points you turn to God for comfort and rely on his strength to carry you through. Know that you are a beautiful and perfect creation. God did not mess up when he formed you and made a plan for your life. And He will remain faithful all throughout your life. As a human we know that we will go through hard times in our life. As a girl, or a teenager, this may possibly be one of the more difficult times in a woman’s life. But have faith, God is with you, He loves you, and has made you perfect through His death and sacrifice. So remember, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith” (1Timothy 4:7).
