Friday night marked the end of one of the craziest weeks of my life – pledge week! (Basically the Christian school version of sorority/fraternity rush week!) I’m proud to say I’m now a member of the incredible sisterhood of Delta Gamma Rho! (:
The week was so much fun, but really exhausting, physically and mentally. I was forced to do ridiculous things, like count the thousands of bricks in front of the auditorium and carry an egg with me everywhere, but I’m beginning to understand now that everything we did had a purpose. I learned so much this week! One of the most amazing things that came from the week is the bond I formed with my pledge class. I went through a lot with those girls, who I barely knew at all at the beginning of the week, and now they are some of the best friends I’ve made at Harding! We had to learn to work together and help each other, or we would never survive pledge week. I was blessed with an amazing pledge class and I wouldn’t change anything about those girls! They taught me to see the unique beauty that God has put in every single one of his creations. We are all so different, and sometimes I judge too quickly, assuming things about people before really getting to know them and their story.
On Sunday night, when we first met our pledge class, we were simply a group of 34 girls, with a common interest in DGR. However, later on in the week, once we really understood that we needed each other, we became a sisterhood. I got to know the girls better; I got to hear their stories and their struggles and their successes. I formed relationships that I know will last a long time. I had no idea how close we would all become by the end of the week. Those girls are all so incredible in their own special way, and I am glad that I got the chance to experience that.
I hope that I can use this experience to help me from now on not to judge others, but to love them with my whole heart, as God loves us. God made man in his own image – how could I possibly not love every single one of them? I know I need to focus on seeing the beauty of God in everyone that I meet, and I pray that God will help me with that! Take the time to learn from everyone that you meet and to truly find the amazing qualities that God has put into each of us- it’s not hard to find if you’re willing to take the time to look!
