Wisdom Comes Only From God

image_6p944oHey! I’m Ashleigh and I just turned 18 a few weeks ago! I started school yesterday as a freshman at Harding University. Being surrounded by so many Christians, it is hard to ignore God’s incredible power and unconditional love. Don’t get me wrong; life here is not perfect by any means. Everyone has their struggles, and those struggles  don’t just disappear because you go to a Christian school. However, I know I am so blessed to be at school that has such a strong focus on God and on serving Him.

God has blessed me so much by giving me incredible role models in my life that have such a genuine, undeniable love for Him and His Word. I had some amazing experiences this summer and I’ve been able to spend time with some really strong Christians. As this new year brings so many changes to each one of us, my personal goal is to really dig deep into God’s Word, further than I ever have before.

In the book of Proverbs, wisdom is talked about over and over, wisdom that comes only from God and His Word. Proverbs 2:1-5 says, “My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.”

The only way to receive God’s words and treasure His commands is to look to the scriptures He has given to us. I will admit that I have neglected studying my Bible so many times, convincing myself that I’m “too busy,” or coming up with some other lame excuse. But over and over, especially this summer, I have begun to realize that turning to the Bible is the only way to survive the struggles of this world. No matter what we are going through, no matter what we are dealing with, God’s Word always holds the answer! Proverbs 3:13-14 says, “Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold.”

Even just this week, being off at a brand new school, not knowing hardly anyone, living on my own for the first time ever, I have found so much comfort in God’s Word, comfort that I could never find anywhere else. It’s hard to put what I’m trying to say into words, but I just thank God so much for the amazing blessing He has given us through His Word!

I could go on forever about how much the Bible has to say about our lives and how thankful I am to have a glimpse of the wisdom of my Almighty Heavenly Father right in front of me, but I will just let His Word speak for itself! No matter what this new school year throws at you, always remember that God has given us all the answers to life’s problems and they are right in front of us; all we have to do is read His Word! I hope that everyone has a great week! (:
